Replace chemical dyes with natural dyes

Replace chemical dyes with natural dyes. Separation of color from natural materials. Today, the widespread use of colorants in the fashion and apparel industry is increasing the environmental pollution, especially in rivers, streams and lakes.

Prior to such a situation, Trung Huong Textile Co., Ltd - Hung Yen has cooperated with Dr. Hoang Thi Linh - Lecturer of Hanoi University of Technology and GoldenDolphin Company Ltd to study the dye natural dye replacement chemistry.

Hoang Thi Linh''s path to this study began in 1996 when she was invited by some non-governmental organizations to help ethnic minorities improve the color fastness of brocade.

With the development of synthetic fabrics and chemical pigments as well as the cost of expensive handicrafts, traditional products are increasingly becoming one. In practice, very few natural dyes are used to dye fabrics, including silk. For ethnic minorities too, they often use synthetic dyes; if natural dyes are used, they are mainly found in indigo.

As a specialist in the field of dyeing, in the process of participating in the project of replacing chemical dyes with natural dyes - Cleaner and more effective method (2012 - 2013), Dr. Hoang Thi Linh Natural dyes have been found in nature. In the lab, Ts Ling used leaves, bamboo leaves, celestial leaves, nacreous leaves, gums, wormwood, eucalyptus leaves, tea leaves, pink leaves, nacre ... to dye Cotton, linen and silk fabrics. Initially, she made by hand: cook up leaves to get color solution in the leaves and dip the fabric into dye. In the color solution added a number of substances that increase the ability to color, color, durable color and create different colors, colors.

Dr. Linh uses the method extracted color as above because if the color separation in the leaves and then made into pure dye will be very expensive. In addition, there are many impurities in the color solution and these impurities contribute to the deep, dark colors that can not be obtained with synthetic dyes. Color solution is best used because the first water will be used to dye dark color, the remaining water will give the color lighter.

Over time, Ts Linh has developed the idea of technology, both color separation and dyeing fabric on industrial equipment in large quantities. Post-harvest material is added to the dye-side auxiliary to extract the color solution. Then, the solution is applied directly to the dyeing machine to dye the fabric as a conventional dyeing method.

Development of natural dyes according to industrial scale

"The entire process of natural dyeing technique has been transferred by experts from the Department of Textile and Fashion, Hanoi University of Technology and improved technology dyeing fabric and silk with natural dyes extracted from leaves. Available in water such as tea leaves, bamboo leaves ... This technology is based on the traditional techniques of the people but has been improved with new techniques to make the fabric more durable. More importantly, this technology has the advantage of being able to protect the skin, against bacteria when using environmentally friendly products, "said Ts Ling.

The application of this new technology has been successfully tested by Vietnamese scientists in the dyeing of fabrics with natural dyes from available crops and extensive agricultural wastes. high quality to meet the market demand for silk and cotton fabrics.

Dr. Li said: Currently, the demand for natural fabrics and eco-fashion is increasing worldwide. When we produce all-natural fabrics (both fabric and dye) and build a brand for eco-fabric, it opens up many opportunities for export. These products are loved by customers because they have soft, thin and high color fastness characteristics. Natural dyes are often highly stable and maintain a good durability for a long time. More and more customers from Japan and Europe put these products from Vietnam but now, we do not have enough to supply. Accordingly, it is important that Vietnam develop this form of dyeing on an industrial scale.

Using natural pigments helps people utilize waste from agricultural production such as tea leaves, bamboo leaves and easy-to-grow plants to provide raw materials for color extraction. In addition, the application of this technology helps restore traditional weaving villages, the natural cotton village of Trat Cau, Quat Dong village ... and promote the development of silk fabrics to meet the input needs. when dyed naturally with large scale.
